Store Your Chocolate Coated Cookies in Your Wine Cooler

If you read our Post about storing your chocolates in your wine cooler and you are a chocolate-coated cookie monster, you know most of what you need to know to justify getting a wine cooler if you do not already have one. One extra twist with the cookies. We store our chocolate coated cookies in sealed containers in the cooler. The humidity in the container will be the room humidity. Not an issue if you live in southern AZ, as we do. If the room humidity is higher than about 50% storing the cookies in a sealed container may not be appropriate.

So, let’s identify some wine cabinets that let you adjust the humidity. You can consider any of the Cavavin Majestika units. They are higher cost than the Vinotemps but offer unique features.  In the Vinotemp product line, the products that gives you the humidity control are the VT-CAVE models, one with a solid door, one with glass.

Wine Coolers are Cool

On the very light side, wine coolers are “cool”. They make a statement in your home. Your friends and other visitors will want to know why you have it, and how you use it.

Wine Coolers are Fun

We have had our 72-bottle unit for four years now. Each time we talk about getting out a bottle we chuckle at the complexity of the discussion about which one to open. Is it for casual drinking, with the meal or after the meal? Should it be a white or red? Should it be a big red or a lighter one? Are we celebrating something or is it just an ordinary day? What food are we contemplating for this evening? We feel like a red. Whoops, we want to change our first idea of the wine for something else. For us, this is part of the fun of being wine lovers and having the wine cooler. And, don’t forget, that if you are building a new house or remodeling your kitchen, a built-in might be the answer.

You Don’t Have To Make a Special Trip To the Store for a Bottle of Wine

Want a certain bottle of wine for dinner but don’t have it? Well, with your wine cooler stocked with your favorite every day wines, some others for special occasions, for sure a few bottles of bubbly, and, perhaps, some for keeping, you can have your choice – at any time.

Wine Coolers Can Be a Part of Your Home Decor

Did you know that your wine cooler could be a part of your décor? There is a wide variety of furniture styles that could be complimented with a wooden wine cooler. Of course, price-wise, these units cost more than the metal units. However, these units are intended to be more than just simple wine storage.

Straight-forward wine storage can be accomplished with a metal cabinet at a lower cost for a given size compared to wood, beveled glass and decorative gratings.

You Can Have a Selection – Always

This is the same as the previous topic, with a different slant. Here, the focus is on the variety of choices at any time. We have a wide-ranging wine interest. As a result, we always keep a wide variety of wines in our wine cooler.

Your Wines Will Be the Right Temperature – Always

Remember the wine temperature post? If you keep a variety of wines, some wanting lower temps, others higher temps, you will likely be opting for the 55° temperature setting. Depending upon your wine choice, you may want to warm up that red a bit to get to the proper drinking temperature – perhaps decant it, or you may have to put that bottle of white in an ice bucket for a few minutes to cool it a bit more, but you are always close to your preferred – and correct – temperature. This is certainly better than room temperature or right out of the refrigerator!

Actually, we have discovered another, very simple, solution to having our wine at the right temperature. We have acquired a single bottle wine chiller. When we remove a new red from the wine cooler, we pour the first glass, then place the bottle in the chiller, set at the correct temperature. We now experience the correct temperature from beginning to end.

Danby 75 Bottle Wine Cooler (DWC612BLP)

Danby 75 Bottle Wine Cooler (DWC612BLP)

If you have a 20 – 30 bottle wine cooler, you are probably keeping it full of wine all the time.  How did this happen?  I didn’t have any capacity before, and now I really need more capacity.  Now what do I do? If you are buying your first cooler, and you tend to bring home bottles from wine trips, what size should you buy?

Our suggestion in both these examples is a wine cooler that is a good balance between the large and the rest.  The Danby 75 bottle unit has  11 beechwood wooden shelves – nine of them pullout. The tempered glass door with Platinum door trim can be reversed easily.  This unit is for free-standing application only.  Its dimensions are 58 13/16″H x 23 5/8″W x 25 11/16D”.
